WEW: Karina Martinez

Questions:

Name of Collaborator:

“Karina Martinez”

Title:

“Cyber Security Analyst”

What client(s) are you working for (if applicable)?

 “Niche Aim”

How long have you been working with People Thrust?

“Since November 2021.”

If you could be a car, what car would you be and why?

“I would be a Chevy. My husband owns an auto shop so I’m constantly surrounded around cars and feel like a Chevy is the best one. A Chevy is a loyal and reliable car that would not leave you stranded on the road.”

What do you like to do when you aren’t working? (hobbies)

“The first thing that comes to my mind is karaoke and my choice is to always sing a cumbia that way I can get people to sign along and have fun. Singing is so much fun. I used to be in a rock band and my favorite music to play in my free time is heavy metal.”

What is a tradition you have and why?

“I was born in Mexico City but grew up in a province outside of the city. Back in my town and within my family we celebrate November 1st which some celebrate All Saint’s Day or The Day of the Dead. In my family, we make an altar to celebrate our loved ones by singing. Another tradition we have is that on Mexican Mother’s Day (May 10th) we sing and celebrate all the mothers in the town. What can I say we love music and singing in my family! Haha!”

If you could have dinner with anyone (dead or alive) who it would be, and why?

“I would have dinner with the singer Raymix. A well-known song by him is Oye Mujer: listen to it here! He worked at NASA, but later on decided to become a Cumbia artist. I like his story because it means that if you study or have plans for something is not necessary where life takes you. I like that he is a representation within the LGBTQIA+ community and he is not afraid to be himself.”

What motivates you to wake up every day?

“My family, my daughters and my parents. I  come from very humble beginnings. Is it truly a blessing to work and be able to provide and help my parents. I’m very close to them and talk to every day with them.”

What is a moment in your career and life you’re most proud of?

“One of my biggest accomplishments was being able to build a house on my father’s land. It took a lot of sacrifice, sweat, and tears, but I was able to do it. Another accomplishment is working at Niche Aim. I truly enjoy working at Niche Aim and the values that it represents, the warmth, the companionship from my coworkers, and the fact that I can see myself growing professionally within the company is a huge accomplishment.”

What do you do when you are feeling deflated?

“LOL, well… you can say I’m a bit weird! I loooooveee anime, Dragon Ball, Korean shows, and Chinese shows among others. These types of things and fantasies allow me to disconnect from the real world and is a tool I try to use often.”

What do you do to give back or pay it forward?

“In the past, my mom and I helped at a local health clinic that focuses a lot on the elderly community in that town. We used to do outreach programs for them like bringing professionals to talk to them about health, nutrition, diabetes, and high/low blood pressure. We helped them with paperwork from the government, did Christmas celebrations with them, and did 5k among other things.”

Fun fact about you? Share something that nobody would guess about you.

“My mom had diabetes for a few years now, that made me be more empathetic towards that disease. In another world if I wasn’t in the career I am now I would be a caregiver or nurse and focus on the elderly. I would humanize and make them feel important.”

Question from the previous MEM (Eduardo Rodriguez)

“Don’t end up with your first love. I used to be a lil bit self-centered because I was focused on hanging out with my friends, college etc instead of helping out with my mom. And I would tell my youngself value and prioritize your family.”

What question do you have for the next MEM/WEW/THEY?

“If you could be anyone from history who would you be and why? It can be the villain too!”
