Position Title: Person In Charge (PIC) for Oil and Hazardous Material Transfer Operations

Location: Cataño, Puerto Rico (Onsite)

Schedule: Immediate, Shift rotating 24/7, 365 days a year; Varies number of hours worked per week.

Duration: Full-Time

 

Salary:

$12/hr initial pay and $15/hr at the end of the probationary period; 40 hours a week guaranteed pay (there are weeks where less than 40 hours are worked); double-time overtime (paid over 40 hours).

AFAB Corporation is a niche subcontractor handling bulk petroleum products for terminal operations.

 

What does a Person in Charge do?

The position of Person In Charge (PIC) consists of performing the necessary operations to ensure safe transfer operations (before, during, and after) at the dock, in compliance with company and government regulations. Some of the responsibilities include but are not limited to securing, and connecting fuel hoses, loading/unloading petroleum products. 

 

Responsibilities: Line handling activities 

  • Hose connections and valves 
  • Transfer and receipt of product 
  • Maintaining communication with required personnel during transfer operations 
  • Observing and reporting malfunctions, defects, or issues to the employer and clients.
  • General dock operations activities
  • Generating accurate records related to transfer operations per company and state/federal regulations. 
  • Crane operations 
  • Escorting individuals as requested to- and from- vessels as requested by the employer 
  • Additional responsibilities as directed by the employer

 

Required skills:

  • Ability to speak, read and understand English is a requirement 
  • TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) is required to access the job site.
  • Ability to work odd shifts 24/7 is required, 365 days a year.
  • Must be able to submit to a background check and drug test.
  • Must wear required uniforms and personal protection equipment (PPE).
  • Availability to arrive at the dock with less than 1 hour notice, 365 days 24/7.
  • 100% reliable transportation, 
  • Certificate of good conduct.
  • Own a cell phone.
  • Annual attendance at HazWopper course and accreditation workshops

 

Physical Requirements 

  • Ability to work in and around chemicals and fuels.
  • Physically able to climb a 60’ ladder/staircase.
  • Physically able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stoop, bend, conduct work overhead for extended periods of time.
  • Physically able to sit and stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to work at a consistent pace.

Benefits:

  • Minimum 40 hrs/week paid even if worked under 40 hrs/week (must be available to work 24/7).
  • Medical – Health insurance cost is shared by AFAB and employees. AFAB pays between 60-65% depending on the plan chosen by the individual employee. 
  • Vacation – Employees whose actual hours worked are equal or greater than 130 hrs. in a calendar month accumulate 10 hrs. of vacation time. 
  • Sick – Employees whose actual hours worked are equal or greater than 130 in a calendar month accumulate 8 hrs of sick time. 
  • Bonuses – an annual bonus, covering the period of October 1 of the previous year through September 30 of the current year, is paid in mid-December; in addition, two (2) discretionary performance bonuses are paid annually. 
  • Cell Phone – employees receive an allowance for cell phone use of $25.00 per month
